OK, but you still haven’t actually explained what you think instead?
The only problem I see on this theory is that it’s fully headcanon based and your interpretation, Tavros’ words clearly can be seen as a sign of passivity but it seems that the fandom completely ignores the fact that the character is, in fact, submissive.
I think that means we aren’t actually reading the same Homestuck, and possibly also that the color I see as blue, you see as yellow. I didn’t really find the part where he charged Vriska with a lance to be all that submissive, personally. Or his enthusiastic (if ineffective) re-trolling of Dave. Or where he (thought he) saved Jade’s life and independently came up with a pretty decent idea to take on Bec Noir. (Which I don’t think anybody else had by then, but I could be wrong.)
Does he submit to Vriska a lot? Yeah, because she has abused him and fucked him up, and also he doesn’t want to be mind controlled. He’s terrified of her, and for good reason, I think we can agree. Still, I don’t think “nO, yOU’RE STUPID,” is a very submissive statement, and neither is “nO, i THINK i’VE DECIDED, yOU’RE BEING UNREASONABLE.” He only submits to her after she makes it perfectly clear that she’s going to mind control him if he doesn’t, and even then, he doesn’t make a secret of how unhappy he is about it.

Interesting thought. But then, if Vriska hasn’t completely stopped being a b*tch, then I doubt Tavros has gained enough confidence to mess with her like that, unless he also partly inherited being a manipulative b*itch from her.
That’s not being a manipulative bitch on his part, that’s confounding somebody who’s abused you for years. I’m just going to put that where we can both see it.
Moving on, the idea that Tavros’s recovery is or should be tied to Vriska’s doesn’t seem valid. It actually really bothers me, since that implies abused people don’t/shouldn’t recuperate until their abusers have reformed. I’m n0t 0kay with that. I am [S]: Make Her Pay levels of n0t 0kay with that.
Tavros has presumably been working on healing and being safe for the first time in sweeps. (That’s what I got out of his ‘I actually kinda like being dead’ thing, anyway.) He has been able to grow as a person because he’s been safe from her and Alternia as a whole. Whatever Vriska’s been doing, we can see it wasn’t working on overcoming her problems, since she… turned around and went right back to abusing him. Well done Vriska.

But then I reread it a few times, and I thought about it a lot, and I came to the realization… he’s totally fucking with her. He’s being all bland and inoffensive and completely fucking with her head. Watch this.
Vriska: “OH MY GOD THAT WAS HORRIBLE.”
Tavros: “It wasn’t really that bad. You’re being unreasonable.” You’re upset, so I’m NOT going to be upset. I can be upset later.
Vriska: “THAT’S BECAUSE YOU GOT TO SEE MY AWESOME LIFE. YOUR LIFE SUCKS BECAUSE OF EVERYTHING I’VE DONE TO YOU.”
Tavros: “Sure. Your life is super awesome.” What with the lusus that doesn’t love you, almost every friend you’ve ever had trying to kill you at some point, trying to live up to your Ancestor, and fucking up every quadrant you might have had. ”Also your self-confidence.” Which I now know is pretty much bravado and being able to manipulate luck and control minds and stuff.
Vriska: “AND OH MY GOD BY THE WAY I AM TOTALLY SORRY ABOUT KILLING YOU AND I’M ALMOST NEVER SORRY FOR KILLING PEOPLE.”
Tavros: “No, that’s okay.” Wow, I never thought you’d say THAT.

Vriska in a nutshell: “Wow I am so sorry for this horrible thing I did! Here let me do it again. What do you mean that’s abusive. I don’t understaaand.” Ha ha ha you guys my cousin is going through a divorce and her soon-to-be-ex-husband sounds exactly like this I kind of want to vomit in my mouth a little.
What I like to think happened is that dead Tavros spent three years chilling with dead Daves, dead and godtier Aradia (I really hope godtier Aradia!), dead Rose, and so forth. And Rose lent him some of her psychology books about abusive relationships, and he and Aradia read them and were like, “Oh my god! This is EXACTLY LIKE THAT. So THIS is what you can do when you’re in that situation! I can do that!” And he spent a lot of time healing and growing and getting into horrible rap battles with Dave.
As for Gamzee… Don’t eeeeeeeeeeven make me go there. I will talk about class privilege, don’t you think I won’t.
And as for that hideous potion, I will just say: Woah, you made a joke out of his disability and his sexual harassment at the same time. Well done.
